Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is Essential for Heart Health

Heart disease is the number one cause of death and disability among both men and women worldwide. Although it is well known that factors such as smoking, high cholesterol and obesity can increase the risk of developing heart disease, medical research has also found that it can result from a deficiency in co-enzyme Q10.

What is Co-enzyme Q10 and How Does it Support Heart Health?

Co-enzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a powerful antioxidant that plays a vital role in protecting cells and supplying them with energy. CoQ10 is particularly important for organs that have a high energy demand, such as the heart. The heart is one of the hardest-working organs in the body. It literally never takes a rest. Beat after beat, second after second, minute after minute, day after day, the heart pumps continually to ensure that blood flows to every other organ in the body. CoQ10 is essential for ensuring that the heart maintains sufficient energy to perform this essential task.

Although CoQ10 can be obtained from certain foods, most is produced within the body, particularly by the liver. As people age, the body’s ability to produce CoQ10 decreases substantially. When CoQ10 levels decline, the heart loses its ability to burn fuel efficiently, which can lead to damage and life-threatening conditions such as heart failure. Therefore, taking a supplement that contains CoQ10 can help maintain adequate levels of this essential antioxidant that is critical to maintaining a healthy heart.

CoQ10 Supplementation has a Heart Healthy Track Record

Over the past 30 years, scientific evidence has been establishing CoQ10 as one of the most vital nutrients necessary for heart health. In fact, a landmark 10-year study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology Heart Failure demonstrated the dramatic, life-saving benefits of CoQ10 supplementation in patients with heart failure. In this study, patients who took 100 mg of CoQ10 three times daily were significantly less likely to die from heart failure or from any cause at all, and were less likely to have a major adverse cardiac event (such as a heart attack) than patients who did not take CoQ10. CoQ10 supplementation is particularly important for reducing the damage caused by a heart attack. Levels of CoQ10 drop dramatically in heart attack victims, and low CoQ10 levels have been associated with an increased risk of dying after a heart attack. CoQ10 supplementation reduces the damage caused by a heart attack by optimizing the heart muscle’s functioning and providing antioxidant support during this crucial period.

CoQ10 supplementation has also been shown to have other heart health benefits.

For example, it has been found to improve the functioning of the endothelium (the thin layer of cells lining arteries that controls blood flow and pressure), thereby enhancing blood flow and protecting the blood vessels.

Studies have also found that CoQ10 supplementation: • Reduces blood pressure in patients with high blood pressure • Reduces the oxidative damage caused by high levels of “bad” cholesterol (also known as low-density lipoprotein, or LDL, cholesterol), and • Helps prevent against atherosclerosis (hardening and narrowing of the arteries).

Cardio Guardian can help ensure that both men and women get adequate amounts of CoQ10 as they age. In addition to other heart healthy vitamins such as folic acid, vitamins B6 and B12, Cardio Guardian contains 100 mg of CoQ10 to support cellular energy production for a strong, healthy heart.
